Yasmin Angoe presents–
- “Villains Need Love Too”: There is no inherently bad person and thus no hero is all good or no villain all bad. In this session, we’ll discover how the villain is the hero of their own story – and how to create villains that are as complicated and compelling as your heroes.
- “Writing the Unseen and the Other”: Writing about characters you don’t often see represented in fiction or those with experiences or identities you don’t share can be difficult and even intimidating. Yasmin will talk about how to approach these characters thoughtfully, give them agency, and push them to the forefront.
Eliza Knight presents —
- “Traveling for Research”: Travel is an incredible way to get inspired to write and conduct research for your story, but visiting the places in our books can seem out of reach. In this workshop, we’ll highlight ways to make your travel more affordable, give tips for planning, research, and tax prep, and point out ways to tap local destinations when jet setting isn’t feasible. Explore your characters’ world with less stress, and let your adventures begin!
- “Breaking Out in Self-Publishing”: With the advent of self-publishing years ago, the world of publishing opened up in a whole new way, paving the path for many writers to forge lucrative and self-sustaining careers. In this workshop, Eliza shares her own personal journey to success, but also focus on key elements every writer can and should implement in order to gain visibility and succeed. Topics the session will focus on are: Career structure, focus and goals; Writing smart; Gathering your team; Marketing strategies that work and those that don’t; Planning for the future.
Vanessa Riley presents–
- “The Hybrid Author’s Path”: Traditional Publishing and Independent Publishing, The Five things to know to Design Your Path”: After writing 25 novels, Vanessa realized that some story structures and story ideas are best served in the indie market while others can gain more traction following a traditional path. In this workshop, Vanessa will explore both indie, traditional, and hybrid paths to publication to help attendees gain the best tools to succeed.
- “Who’s On Your Writing Team”: In this session, Vanessa will discuss the four essential teammate archetypes a writer needs to build a successful writing career and keep their positive mental health and productivity along the way. She will also discuss the servant leadership style of building a community support system to help one thrive.
