Pros and Cons of E-Readers: A List
I took a much needed vacation last week. As suspected, there were a lot more e-readers and a lot fewer books being read on the plane, at the beach, and poolside. I’m a hybrid; I read books in all formats. But in the spirit of comparison, here are a pros and cons to these fancy new devices:
Pro: Take dozens of books without filling up the suitcase.
Con: When the flight attendant requests you turn off all electronic devices for takeoff and landing (and then catches you when you try to hide your e-reader under the blanket.)
Pro: Don’t like any of the books you brought? You can always download more.
Con: When your battery dies because your flight’s delayed 2 hours and you’re unable to find an outlet to re-charge.
Pro: Reading 11/22/63 or the Autobiography of Mark Twain won’t break your wrist or work your biceps.
Con: You can no longer spy and see what everyone else is reading.
Pro: Eyes getting tired? Simply enlarge the font.
Con: Most e-readers strip the formatting so all books look the same.
Pro: Only need one hand to operate and turn pages (the other can remain safely on your drink.)
Con: A lot more expensive to replace when you accidentally spill that drink on it.
